I just ran Akron Marathon for a PR on my first sub 4 hour marathon last weekend and yet I was on the starting line for the Red, White and Blue 26.2 marathon 8 days later. What was I thinking? Continue reading

I have been looking for ways to challenge myself in running as of late. It started with my running a marathon, then it progressed to running a marathon in under 5 hours. Last year I became a Marathon Maniac by running 2 marathons in a 15 day period. This year I’m looking to break the 4 hour marathon, I am only 12 minutes from that goal now. My second goal for this year is to run 4 marathons in a 23 day period & obtain Iridium level in the Marathon Maniacs. But now is the time for me to set some goals for next year, and I think I’ve got a good one. And what better day to announce this than my birthday, I am running the Goofy. Continue reading

It’s official, I have decided I need to obtain Iridium. You are probably thinking why does he need to have a platinum hardening agent. Maybe he is starting a crucible or heavy duty electrical contact manufacturing business in his garage. Well I don’t need that Iridium. I need Marathon Maniacs Iridium Level. And I have come up with a plan to do it without leaving Ohio. On Friday I paid all the entry fees for the required races. I’m committed now, no turning back. Continue reading

I have a goal of breaking the 2 hour mark on my half marathon time this year, but I haven’t ran an actual half marathon that wasn’t on trail or in the snow in a few years. My PR for a road half is a 2:47, but I did run the 1st half of the Cleveland Marathon in 2:00:30. I have picked up quite a bit of speed since my last half. But I need a dedicated road test to see what I can do. I was planning for that test to be the Buckeye Half in August. You would think that I would want to run the Park 2 Park Half because its course is the 2 parks I run in the most. I know every turn, hill and bump on it and the start/finish line is less than 2 miles from my house. But I have not run it since 2004. Continue reading

I am often asked by non-runners, “Why do you Run?” You would think this is a fairly simple question to answer. But, for me, this is a much harder question to answer then I thought it would be. Quick answers come to mind when I am asked this, like to lose weight or I enjoy it. These quick answers are not the real reason I run. They are indeed part of the reason I run. However, the reason I run is so much more. Maybe the best way to start is by telling who I was before I was a runner, then who I have become since I started running. Continue reading

I HAVE FINISHED 5 MARATHONS! Number 5 was my first time running the full marathon at Cleveland. For me it was a much different experience than I have had in any other one. But more on that later. First my major impression of the 2011 Cleveland Marathon, the good, the bad and the ugly. Continue reading
